Greetings, and welcome to my collection of odd plush/plastic crustaceans and cephalopods. I have a particular fondness for these things and below you will see the history of my collection (oldest to newest).
Shrimpy Shrimp- Purchased from the zoo gift shop one summer while I was teaching Zoo Crew. Not a big seller, but adorable. He chills in the computer desk. Umm, chilled shrimp cocktail. (Please don't tell him.)
Squidy Squid- What we at the zoo call a misfit toy. Around Christmas, we pull out the damaged or unloved toys for the keepers to nearly wrestle over. They didn't even want this guy. Mostly, I felt sorry for him, but I also kind of liked him. He's great fun. Greater fun when added with squid noises (blurblurblurb) and put on someone's head. He's slightly phallic, but don't hold that against him. He currently resides on top of the mantle with other fun, yet nearly useless items.
Lil' Squidy Squids- Best cat toys ever (before).
Best cat toys ever after one momma cat and 7 kittens.
rOOOck loBBBster- Birthday present from my husband. He (lobster, not husband) lives on our couch and has to be occasionally taken away from small fuzzy kittens even though he is bigger. Actually, it does kind of apply to my husband.
Trinky Thing Lobster- Okay, not plush or plastic, but rather mollusky and metal. Purchased for $1 during the store closing sale at Nellie's Antique Mall. He will probably end up in a little shadow box.
Aren't they adorable? I don't know what it is about them that I like. Perhaps, I find them personable or simply quirky. Now that I think about it, one of my most favorite beanie babies way back in the day was the pink octopus. I think it was called Ink or Inky or Not-a-Profitable-Collectible- After-All.
Donnie and I have even discussed decorating our future child's room in an "Under the Sea" theme. Works well for a boy or girl, and Sebastian (not Bach) can hang out and sing the room theme song. Mind you, this is quite a ways in the future!
Opinionated blather, shampoo suggestions, sexual connotations... it is all right here, folks! Kick back! Enjoy! And, for the sake of my unborn grandchildren, leave loving comments!
